Evidence for retroviral intramolecular recombinations.
As a consequence of being diploid, retroviruses have a high recombination rate. Naturally occurring retroviruses contain two repeat sequences (R regions) flanking either end of their RNA genomes, and recombination between these two R regions occurs at a high rate. We deduced that recombination may occur between two sequences within the same RNA molecule (intramolecular) as well as between seque...
متن کاملInter- and intramolecular recombinations in the cucumber mosaic virus genome related to adaptation to alstroemeria.
In four distinct alstroemeria-infecting cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) isolates, additional sequences of various lengths were present in the 3' nontranslated regions of their RNAs 2 and 3, apparently the result of intra- and intermolecular recombination events. Competition experiments revealed that these recombined RNA 2 and 3 segments increased the biological fitness of CMV in alstroemeria.
متن کاملPhylogenetic evidence for multiple intertypic recombinations in enterovirus B81 strains isolated in Tibet, China
Enterovirus B81 (EV-B81) is a newly identified serotype within the species enterovirus B (EV-B). To date, only eight nucleotide sequences of EV-B81 have been published and only one full-length genome sequence (the prototype strain) has been made available in the GenBank database. Here, we report the full-length genome sequences of two EV-B81 strains isolated in the Tibet Autonomous Region of Ch...
متن کاملReceptor-mediated activation of Gsalpha: evidence for intramolecular signal transduction.
To investigate the mechanism by which cell surface receptors activate heterotrimeric G proteins, we applied a scanning mutagenesis approach to the carboxyl-terminal 40% of alphas (residues 236-394) to identify residues that play a role in receptor-mediated activation. We identified four regions of sequence in which mutations significantly impaired receptor-dependent stimulation of cAMP synthesi...
متن کاملToward More Powerful Recombinations
This paper suggests a exible framework for n-dimensional crossover, consisting of cutting, classi cation, and copying of genes. We prove that under this framework, any cutting strategy generates two equivalence classes of genes, making the framework appropriate as a crossover scheme. Three notable features of this framework are: (i) it enables more e ective use of genes' geographical linkage, (...
